About 20 of Christina Calayca‘s family members are to gather at Rainbow Falls Provincial Park on Saturday for a prayer vigil.
“It‘s important to us to go back to the last place where she was seen,” Karen Caguicla, Calayca‘s aunt and godmother, said Thursday from her Toronto home.
The 20-year-old Calayca, a Toronto day-care worker, was last seen Aug. 6 going for a jog in the rugged park just west of Schreiber.
Police conducted an extensive air and ground search for more than two weeks, but never found a trace of the petite, dark-haired Calayca.
Caguicla said family members remain grateful for the efforts of police and volunteers “who looked for Christina as if she was their own daughter.”
“For us, it would be nice to see everyone in person, to express our sincere thanks to people who brought food and opened up their homes,” Caguicla added.
Though police have ruled out foul play in Calayca‘s disappearance, Caguicla said she still harbours doubts about that.
“We are trying to be positive, but we believe something happened to her,” Caguicla said.
“Christina is just too smart to get lost.”
Caguicla said the family is aiming to have the park vigil begin around 3 p.m.
